This 3-day tour starts from Marrakech, continues to the Sahara Desert and finishes in Fes. We will be leaving Marrakech around 08:00 am and drive towards the High Atlas Mountains. A winding road takes us on an impressive journey past verdant valleys and Berber villages as it climbs up to the highest drivable pass in Morocco. Tizi n´Tichka stands at 2260 metres of altitude. There will be a stop on the way for coffee or mint tea and photos. In the afternoon, you will be visiting the UNESCO world heritage site of Ait Benhaddou; best known as a set location for international filmmakers and directors. Many movies have been made in this Kasbah which was once an important fortress stronghold on the old Salt route where caravans brought slaves, gold, ivory and salt to trade from the distant lands to the cities of Morocco. Our journey continues to the city of Ouarzazate; known as the Hollywood of Africa as it has several film studios. From here, the landscape changes as we travel south-east along the route of a thousand kasbahs through towns and Berber villages on our way to the Dades Valley where we will spend the first night.
After a delicious local breakfast, we depart from our accommodation and continue our adventure. The route takes us along the Dades Valley to the Todra Gorge; an impressive canyon favoured by international rock climbers. After a visit and a lunch break, we journey south towards the Sahara. Beautiful landscapes, oases and palm groves line the way, adobe kasbahs and ancient ruins, fossil museums and dinosaur relics. Erfoud is the city of fossils as this region was once an ocean, many fossils and minerals are found in the area and are worked into beautiful pieces of furniture and decorative items.
Continuing south, we drive to the sea of sand that is the end of our road today; Erg Chebbi dunes, where your camels and guide will be waiting to take you across the high golden dunes of the Moroccan Sahara to your desert camp for the night. If the sky is clear, you will be amazed at the show of stars above you. Dinner will be served and local traditional music will be played as you absorb the tranquil atmosphere before retiring to your nomad style tent.
In the desert, the most amazing part of the day is often the sunrise, so it´s an early wake up to witness this ever-changing daily wonder. We ride the camels´ back to the accommodation where you can take a shower and enjoy a relaxed breakfast. Our journey today takes us to the Medina of Fes, on the way, we will make some stops to drink tea with a nomad family, follow the great Ziz Valley northwards and have lunch in the town famous for apples and its minerals. Midelt sits at 1488 metres of altitude and is overshadowed by Jbel Ayachi at 3737metres. We pass through the Middle Atlas mountains to reach Fes by late afternoon.
